What is Gender and Development (GAD)?
Gender and Development (GAD) is a development approach that promotes gender equality by addressing the social, economic, and political disparities between men and women. It recognizes that gender roles and relations impact access to resources, opportunities, and decision-making, and seeks to create policies and programs that ensure equal participation and benefits for all.
GAD goes beyond focusing only on women’s issues; it aims to transform societal structures that reinforce inequality and discrimination. It encourages the integration of gender perspectives in governance, education, health, employment, and community development to build a more inclusive and equitable society.
In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), GAD initiatives strive to:
✅ Empower women and marginalized groups in leadership and decision-making.
✅ Ensure equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
✅ Promote gender-sensitive policies that protect rights and eliminate discrimination.
✅ Strengthen awareness and advocacy for gender equality and inclusivity.
By mainstreaming GAD principles, BARMM fosters a more just and sustainable development that benefits everyone, regardless of gender.
